Winter Hike365 Nov 9th Adventure!

Hey ladies! This months Hike365 event is on Sunday November 9th and we are heading up to Pigeon Mountain via Skogan Pass in Alberta’s own Kananaskis Country!

Views include: Windtower, Rimwall, and 3-Sisters ranges.

Name: Pigeon Mountain Hike via Skogan Pass -trailhead located 1hr west of Calgary on Hwy 1

At the south end of the trailhead parking lot head through the vehicle barriers and only minutes later you make a left up the obvious cut line with power poles which heads up to Skogan Pass.

There is a road that parallels the cut line on your left for large portions of the trail.

Generally keep on the cut line trail and circumvent a couple of ravines by taking the trail or road on your left.

Eventually you come to an obvious left hand turn onto the upper road with a cairn and couple of posts at this intersection.

From the upper road (approx 20 minutes later) keep an eye out for the sign “Living with Wildlife” on your left. This is where you exit the road and only 5 minutes to tree line on a hiking trail.

It takes around 1.5 hours (not in snow) to this point at a moderate pace.

From here there is a small foot trail up the open grassy slopes all the way to the ridge between the north and south summits.

Some sections of these grassy slopes are deceptively steep (crampons and hiking poles are an asset)

Follow the ridge to the north summit, south summit optional. T

Traverse from tree line to the north summit is approx 1.5 hours for a moderate pace (not in snow).

Please  Read + Review True Dino’s Blog Entry of the hike for detailed photographs and to get familiar with the route as we may encounter snow! Please note will NOT be taking the shortcut unless it is obvious. True Dino

You are required to email transfer a $25 deposit to to complete your registration. This deposit will be paid back to you at the trail head. If you are unable to attend the event or cancel, your deposit is only returned to you provided we can find a girl to fill your spot.

We hope that you understand Hike365 is based on the concept of building community among women who want to meet other girls to hike with and connect in the future on our own hikes. We have a large number of girls who join the wait list for our events, but with short notice often cannot attend if someone cancels. The basis of the deposit is so that if you need to cancel, you do so within an ample timeline and we are then able to get another hike365’er out on the adventure!

Hike365 is only open to women, sorry boys!

Metsä the blue heeler will be joining us  on leash at all times  . If you want to bring your pup we love the company!  We require that your dog remains on leash at all times, and is good with other dogs + people
